Your Time Can Change Someone's Life.

Join a community of volunteers who show up for veterans, first responders, and their families when it matters most.

Why Volunteers Matter Here

Every session we offer exists because someone like you said yes.

Guiding Reins runs on the dedication of volunteers who believe that the men and women who have served our communities deserve real, meaningful support.

When you volunteer with us, you are not just filling a role.

You are helping a veteran take a breath.

You are giving a first responder a place where they do not have to be strong.

You are part of something that quietly, genuinely changes lives.

Where You Can Make a Difference

Session Support
Our most visible volunteer role. Session volunteers assist facilitators during our small group wellness sessions at partner farms in Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina. No horse experience is required. What you bring is your presence, your calm, and your commitment to showing up.

Board and Committee Service
Guiding Reins is governed by an active volunteer Board of Directors and working committees. If you have experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, mental health, equine services, or community outreach, we would love to talk with you.

Special Events
Help us bring the community together through our fundraising events and awareness campaigns. Event volunteers assist with planning, setup, day-of support, and more.

Outreach and Community Engagement
Help us reach the veterans and first responders who need us most. Outreach volunteers assist with tabling at community events, connecting with partner organizations, and spreading the word about our programs.

Administrative Support
Behind every session is a team making sure the details are handled. Administrative volunteers help with data entry, communications, grant research, and program coordination. This is a great fit if you want to make a difference from wherever you are, even just an hour or two a week.

What to Expect

When you submit your volunteer interest form, a member of our team will follow up with you within 10 days to learn more about your interests, your availability, and where you might be the best fit. There is no minimum time commitment required. Whether you can give an hour a month or show up every week, there is a place for you here.

All session volunteers receive an orientation before their first session. We want you to feel confident, prepared, and genuinely connected to the work before you walk through the gate.

"We've never met a strong person with an easy past. Our volunteers understand that. They show up with open hearts and steady hands, and our participants feel every bit of it."

Diane Prewitt, Founder and Executive Director, Guiding Reins
